About Happy in the Dirt

Hi, I’m Melissa, a small-scale dahlia and cut flower grower based in Richfield, Minnesota. I’ve been gardening since 2004, with a love for all kinds of plants, from vegetables and shade gardens to pollinator-friendly blooms, but cut flowers, and especially dahlias, have truly captured my heart.

At Happy in the Dirt, my goal is to make specialty local flowers approachable and accessible—welcoming growers, designers, and flower lovers at every stage. Whether you’re planting your first tuber, growing a cut-flower garden, sourcing flowers for design work, or simply enjoying the magic of fresh blooms, I want specialty flowers to feel inviting, achievable, and joyful.

I offer dahlia tubers, cut flower plant starts, fresh bouquets, and wholesale flowers by the stem, available for local delivery or pickup during the growing season. I love sharing the process and encouraging experimentation, and I’m always happy to talk plants or help others feel more confident working with specialty flowers in the garden, the field, or the studio.
